  • Job Captain / Designer

    As a Job Captain/Designer at PKA, you’ll use your exceptional creative, technical and interpersonal talents to guide the design and construction process and ensure the buildability of complex custom homes and boutique commercial projects. Working directly with our Principals, Project Architects and Project Managers and top builders, consultants, interior designers and landscape architects, you’ll assist with schematic design, draft construction details, produce drawing sets, and review submittals and shop drawings. As you grow and excel at your responsibilities, you’ll be considered for additional opportunities within our studio.


    Primary Responsibilities

    • Manage the production side of a project with a focus on coordination and constructability

    • Utilize and expand knowledge of construction methodologies, materials, and practices

    • 3D modeling for iterative design purposes, documentation and rendering

    • Research and select innovative materials and products

    • Develop product specifications and integrate into drawing sets

    • Draft and produce drawing sets, details, and documents to construct the final project

    • Lend knowledge and experience to identify and resolve problem areas before they arise

    Required Skills, Experience and Attributes

    • Accredited degree in architecture or related program (licensure is desired, but not required)

    • 3-5 years of experience in a high-end custom residential design firm

    • Excellent interpersonal skills with clear, effective verbal, written and graphic communication

    • Motivated, self-directed and organized with effective time-management skills

    • Capable of working collaboratively and independently, managing multiple projects and adjusting priorities

    • Expertise in design, detailing and documentation for new construction and renovation projects of various styles

    • Technical knowledge of Type V construction

    • Experience in 3D modeling, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Enscape, Adobe Suite (Photoshop and InDesign) and MS Office (Word, Excel)

    • Proficiency in Revit, Rhino, ArchiCAD, and other BIM software is a plus but not required

  • Designer

    As a Designer, you’re an integral part of the PKA design and production process. You’ll work closely with PKA Principals, Project Architects and Project Managers on innovative custom residential and boutique commercial projects from the earliest stages of schematic design to the production of drawing sets. You’ll use your creative and technical talents to take initial design concepts, translate them into 3D and explore exciting options, opportunities and possibilities for our clients. You’ll also be involved in the drafting and production of drawing sets, completing of schedules and other tasks necessary for the completion of design and documentation. As you grow and excel at your responsibilities, you’ll be considered for additional opportunities within our studio.


    Primary Responsibilities

    • Participating in design meetings

    • 3D modeling for iterative design purposes, documentation and rendering

    • Coordinating changes in drawings

    • Drafting and revisions to CAD files based on internal and client design feedback

    • Assisting with the development and use of modeling standards

    • Coordinating and completing product and finish schedules

    Required Skills, Experience and Attributes

    • 1-3 years of experience in a high-end custom residential design firm

    • Expertise in design, detailing and documentation for new construction and renovation projects of various styles
